Calaveras Stays Active

The Calaveras County Visitors Bureau has been highly active over the past couple of months.

Executive Director Lisa Mayo, was Friday's KVML "Newsmaker of the Day".

Even during this fairly dry Winter, Mayo attributes a strong number of tourists to a good marketing campaign, as well as tourists sticking closer to their regional home and a diversity of several activites offered throughout the county.

Although more snow is hoped for, the amount of visitors should continue to improve heading into the Spring.

Mayo is working to make sure that Calaveras will be a part of a visitor's choice during the Winter, Spring and even during this May's leg of the Amgen Tour in Sonora.

"Amgen is an international event and we'll have a chance to introduce hundreds of people to our beautiful area," Mayo said. "Even now with little snow in the Sierra, there are plenty of sights and activities that we are able to consistently promote and market throughout the county."

The new 2012 Calaveras Visitors Guide are now available. Locals are encouraged to pick one up and discover a number of new activities for themselves.

There has also been a complete overhaul of the website. It now includes blogs, detailed information on events and videos. Log on to http://www.gocalaveras.com

Next week, Mayo will be in Las Vegas to personally meet with around forty major tour operators and hopefully draw their interest to the Mother Lode area.  

Finally, Mayo now co-hosts a regular local tourist and information show on Calaveras Public Access Television, seen by those with Comcast Cable.

The "Newsmaker of the Day" is heard every weeday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
