New Smog Requirements Proposed

Sacramento, CA -- A California agency is expected to approve new rules requiring automakers to build vehicles that emit about three-quarters less smog by 2025.
The Associated Press reports that the California Air Resources Board will begin hearing testimony today on its "Advanced Clean Car" program. The proposed changes would also mandate that one out of every seven new cars sold in the state be a zero emission or hybrid vehicle. The new emissions standards would start with new cars sold in 2015 and become increasingly stringent until 2025.
By 2025, California vehicles would be required to cut smog emissions by 75 percent, which would be a 34 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.
