Sonora, CA -- The precipitation over recent days has helped boost water supply in Tuolumne County.
The Tuolumne Utilities District reports that the Sonora area has received around eight inches of rainfall this winter season. To compare, the average for this time of year is 17 inches. During the 1976-77 drought year, the driest on state record, the Sonora area had received 4.7 inches to date.
T.U.D. reports that Tuolumne County traditionally receives heavy amounts of rain and snow during February and March, so they are optimistic that more precipitation is on the horizon.
The District is closely monitoring flows in the South Fork Stanislaus River, and is taking precautionary steps of reducing the water flows in the ditch system to a minimum in order to keep as much water storage as possible. So far, the reservoirs are staying at normal levels for this time of year.
