Sonora, CA -- Big changes take effect this year regarding the election system and how Californians will choose candidates for office.

In state elections (Governor, Assembly, Senate, etc.), rather than always having a Democrat and Republican on the General Election ballot, it will simply be the top two vote getters from the primary election. The General Election could start featuring Democrats versus Democrats or Republicans versus Republicans. It is the result of a ballot measure approved by California voters in 2010.

Tuolumne County Clerk and Auditor-Controller Debi Russell will explain changes to the election system on Mother Lode Views this weekend. She'll also talk about what races will be coming up in Tuolumne County in June and November.

If you've ever thought about running for office, she'll also explain what it takes to get your name on the ballot.

Mother Lode Views will air Saturday and Sunday morning at 9:30 on AM-1450 KVML. Mother Lode Views can also be heard Sunday morning at 10 o'clock on 93.5 KKBN and at 9am on STAR 92.7.
