Sonora, CA-- Starting today, the Central Sierra Arts Council will be showcasing winning entries from a new holiday exhibit.

The U.S Capitol Christmas Tree Project's Juried Art Exhibition features original artwork from 14 artists chosen from a total of 50 entries. The 15th winning piece is traveling to Washington, D.C with the Capitol Christmas tree. It will be displayed at the U.S Forest Service's national headquarters.

First place was given to Central California resident Marc Davis for his artwork of El Capitan entitled "Granite Ablaze."

Participating artists came from all over California, with two Tuolumne County residents making it to the final group: Barbara Conley of Sonora and Diana Eppler of Jamestown.

The Capitol Christmas Tree Juried Art Exhibition runs through December 16th at the Central Sierra Arts Council Gallery in Sonora.
