San Andreas, CA-- CAL Fire will be conducting a prescribed burn in Calaveras County next week.

Starting Monday, the 270-acre Winton-Schaads Prescribed Burn will take place in the Lily Valley area east of West Point.

CAL Fire says the burn will be divided up into smaller areas around 20-30 acres.
One to two CAL Fire engines along with personnel from Sierra Pacific Industries will conduct the burns.

This under story burn will treat bear clover, small conifers, brush and grass and help protect the communities of West Point, Wilseyville, and Lily Valley. It will also protect timber resources and the Mokelumne watershed.

Unit Chief Brian Kirk says the burn will proceed as scheduled as long as the fuel moisture, temperature, humidity and winds are favorable.
