San Andreas, CA-- With the return of Fall comes the return of flu season.

The Calaveras County Public Health Department recommends getting a flu vaccination every year to assure months of protection.

County Health Officer Dr. Dean Kelaita says flu season can start as early as October and continue through March. "Each year I remind people that flu can be serious," said Kelaita. "Every year people die from seasonal flu."

Kelaita says that everyone over 6 months should get the flu vaccine. Some children, youth and adults are at risk of serious illness and possibly death if they are not protected from the flu.

Those especially vulnerable include adults 50 years of age and over, pregnant women and everyone with chronic health conditions including diabetes, kidney, heart or lung disease.
Kelaita says that even if a person had a flu vaccination last year, they'll need another one this year to be protected and to protect others at risk.

Starting Tuesday, October 11th and continuing through November 1st, the Public Health Department will offer a series of five community flu clinics in San Andreas, Valley Springs, Arnold, West Point and Angels Camp.
