The 43rd annual Bear Valley Music Festival begins tonight and runs through August 14th.

Randy Hanvelt, twenty-seven year member of the Board of Directors, was Friday's KVML "Newsmaker of the Day".

Carter Nice returns for his 27th year as the festival's Music Director and Conductor and has conducted over 200 performances of the Bear Valley Festival Orchestra.

Billed as the world's best ABBA tribute band, abbacadabra opens this year's Festival's live musical performances on Sat. July 30th and the Mamma Mia Movie will be shown tonight (July 29th). The movie night is a free event.

This year the public will be enchanted by Disney in Concert: Magical Music from the Movies with the Orchestra, projected clips, still cells, storyboard art from films, and vocalists. Featuring Disney musical favorites such as The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Aladdin, or The Lion King along with the classics, from a Mary Poppins medley to the "Yo ho" of Pirates of the Caribbean, everyone joins together for memorable moments and melodies that Mouseketeers of all ages know by heart. Disney Tickets will be half price for everyone under 18.

If you enjoy Pop and Broadway tunes, you will have two exciting concerts to choose from this season. There are several other events and concerts planned.

The Bear Valley Festival Orchestra performs in an acoustically designed temporary building called "the tent" located off State Highway 4 in Alpine County, just beyond the Calaveras County border.

Tickets may be ordered and a complete schedule of events can be viewed by visiting the festival website at www.bearvalleymusic.org or by calling toll free (800) 458-1618.

The Bear Valley Music Festival is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization governed by a board of eighteen people from throughout California who volunteer their time to make sure this time honored musical celebration continues to provide a unique and satisfying experience for all attendees. Donations to the festival are tax deductible.

The KVML "Newsmaker of the Day" is heard every weekday morning on AM 1450 KVML at 6:47, 7:47 and 8:47am.
