Sonora, CA -- In 2008 Sonora Regional Medical Center recorded 381,000 patient visits, delivered over 600 babies and donated more than $25,000 to area schools and community organizations.

These are some of the highlights of its recently released 2008 Community Benefits Report.

The Hospital also raised more than $50,000 for Project Hope, a free health clinic on wheels that administered nearly 1,200 free visits.

$61,147 was put into a Cancer Patient Support Fund, primarily thanks to its Joie De Vie Gala.

SRMC employs 1,101 residents and needs to hire around 30 nurses each year to keep up with the retirement rates.

Also, chaplains and faith community nurses provided 6,028 visits to patients and their families.

An opening message from President and CEO Jeff Eller reads, “We have grown in many areas, perhaps most visibly by opening the Sonora Regional Imaging Center and expanding Sonora Regional Cancer Center. And in tough economic times we have been able to stabilize our finances, achieving a positive bottom line, which allows us to reinvest and expand our local healthcare services.”
