Strong thunderstorms have the potential to develop this afternoon and evening in the Motherlode and the Sierra Nevada.

These thunderstorms will be capable of producing large hail, large amounts of small hail, lightning and damaging winds.

In addition, funnel clouds and a brief tornado are also possible. 

The National Weather Service has also issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Sierra Nevada through Thursday 6AM.

Up to an inch of snow accumulation is possible at 5000 feet. Two to four inches of snow is possible near the crest.

Snow levels could fall to 4500 feet.

Winds of twenty to thirty mph are expected with gusts ranging from forty-five to fifty mph.
