Sierra Nevada Winter Weather Advisory
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Sierra Nevada from 5 AM Sunday through 5 AM Monday.
The snow level will lower to around 5000 through 6000 feet. An inch or two of snow accumulation is expected above 6500 feet, with a few inches along the Sierra crest.
Winds of fifteen to twenty-five mph are likely with higher gusts over the crest.
In the Motherlode, the chance of rain will begin Saturday night.
Cold unstable air will move through the region on Sunday, bringing much cooler temperatures, the best chance of rain showers and even isolated thunderstorms. Precipitation amounts will likely be less than half an inch.
The chance of showers will diminish Monday.
In addition, area rivers and streams will be running very cold and very fast for the next several weeks. Everyone going into the water should wear a life vest or personal flotation device. Children that are even just wading alng a waterway should wear a lifevest. Even the strongest swimmers can suffer from hypothermia.
