Travel Management Plan For Stanislaus National Forest

Sonora, CA -- Over the past four years the Stanislaus National Forest has been working to create a sustainable system of routes in hopes of protecting resources that are damaged by cross country travel.

An Environmental Impact Statement is now available for view on the Stanislaus National Forest Travel Management Project.

“We're looking at making changes to what types of vehicles can travel on the forest's roads and the time of year that they can travel,” says Sue Warren, Project Leader with the Stanislaus National Forest. “We are also evaluating whether to add off-highway-vehicle recreation trails to the transportation system."

One proposal is to prohibit cross country travel on areas of the forest that are not designated roads.

A series of public meetings have been scheduled over the coming weeks to help the public better understand the plan. Residents can stop by the White Pines Independence Hall from 4-9pm on March 11, the Sonora Opera Hall from 4-9pm on March 17, or the Greeley Hill Community Club House from 4-9pm on March 18. Meetings will also be held at later dates in Lodi and Modesto.
