Sex Offender Watch In Tuolumne County

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA– The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office is continuously monitoring sex offenders in the county.

One way this goal is accomplished is with the Offender Watch program. Offender Watch is the nation’s leading registered sex offender management notification tool and is utilized by hundreds of law enforcement agencies across the country.

This program monitors the whereabouts and compliance of sex offenders and provides the most accurate information available. The public can access this program by following the link on the county website to the Sheriff’s Office page and then selecting the Offender Watch link. Residents can enter any county address and see real time information on publishable offenders.

According to Sgt. Jeff Wilson, Tuolumne County currently has 151 registered sex offenders. To ensure compliance, Sheriff’s Deputies periodically visit the addresses where sex offenders are registered and make sure they are actually living at the residence. Over the past seven months deputies have checked compliance on 64 registrants. Of those 64, only two were found to be residing elsewhere.

When the offender becomes incompliant, the Sheriff’s Office strives to bring offenders back into compliance. They may also send the case to the  Detectives Division for investigation and possible referral to the District Attorney’s office for prosecution.
