Sacramento, CA-- Governor Jerry Brown today offered his condolences to the victims of a devastating earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

He also spoke about the tsunami warning in California and issued the following statement:

"Our thoughts are with the people of Japan as they endure this tragedy. I have directed California's Emergency Management Agency (Cal EMA) to make state resources available to the Japanese government, and we stand ready to assist them. Cal EMA has been o full alert since early this morning, and tsunami warnings were issued for the state's coastal areas. I urge Californians living in affected areas to follow all instructions from state and federal response agencies."

Damage estimates in Crescent City were in the millions, and more boats and docks were hit in Santa Cruz on California's central coast. Surges are expected throughout the afternoon.
