Supervisors Debate Land Use Policies
Sonora, CA -- There is a debate brewing about land use planning in Tuolumne County.
Last year District Three Supervisor Teri Murrison submitted a plan calling for the coordination of land use decisions between the county and state and federal agencies. In April the Supervisors directed Community Development Director Bev Shane and county staff to prepare a revised version of the plan, and it was presented at Tuesday's Supervisors meeting.
Murrison urged her fellow Supervisors to keep both plans on the table for future review, indicating that the new one is too watered down and less effective. Murrison's original land use plan was around 80 pages long, while the new version is only 21. The plans are designed to establish principals and policies regarding the effect of the uses of federal and state lands in the county. After discussing the matter for nearly an hour, the Supervisors decided to schedule a special meeting for Monday, November 1st to hear details about the competing plans.
