Sonora, CA -- The Tuolumne County Supervisors have passed the first reading of an ordinance that allows the Sheriff's Office to enforce the prohibition of alcoholic beverages at the Rainbow Pool Day Use Area in the Stanislaus National Forest. The Sheriff's Office received a letter of support for the ordinance from officials with the Stanislaus National Forest.

"Some of the problems we've encountered is people drinking alcohol and jumping off the rocks and requiring medical rescue from the Search and Rescue Team," said Undersheriff Keith Lunney. "We're just trying to limit the problems we have in that area."

The Supervisors voted 5-0. The ordinance is required so that the Sheriff's Office can enforce the federal regulations at the Rainbow Pool. It is located off Highway 120.
