Supervisors Continue Reduced Meeting Schedule

Sonora, CA -- The Tuolumne County Supervisors will continue to meet just twice a month.
The Supervisors reduced the meeting schedule from four times a month to twice a month earlier this summer due to budget cuts and a lack of development projects coming before the Board. The Board voted 4-1 today to continue the new schedule.
District Five Supervisor Dick Pland has been against the reduced meeting schedule, but voted in favor with the understanding that it will be reevaluated in January following the holiday season. District Three Supervisor Teri Murrison has also been against the reduced schedule, citing concerns that some residents may not know when the meetings are taking place. She also stated that it's important that the Supervisors are leading the county on issues and not staff members.
District Four Supervisor John Gray prefers the four meeting schedule, but supported the twice a week reduction out of concerns that more staff would need to be hired to expand back. District One Supervisor Liz Bass supported continuing the reduction, and said the new schedule has allowed her to host and attend more community meetings, and do more community outreach. District Two Supervisor Paolo Maffei also supported the reduction because of the county's financial constraints. All of the Supervisors supported the idea that it should be reevaluated before January 1st.
Continuing the reduced meeting schedule was at the recommendation of CAO Craig Pedro.
