Kennedy Meadows, CA-- The Stanislaus National Forest and the Yosemite Community College District hosted a Benchmark Review of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Baker Station Renovation Project Thursday.

Local business leaders, elected officials, tribal leaders and educators were invited to attend the review near Kennedy Meadows on Highway 108.  The project is one of many that are putting people to work in California and the Benchmark Review is part of the Obama Administration's "Recovery Summer" events being held across the country.

Baker Station is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was the California Department of Transportation's maintenance yard for early road construction and maintenance of Highway 108 and joining roads near the Sonora Pass summit.

Stanislaus Forest Public Affairs Officer Jerry Snyder said, "Over 190 jobs were created on the Stanislaus employing supervisors, designers, labors, heavy equipment operators and clerical workers to complete work on 23 major project major bundles. About $6.7 million has been allocated to the Stanislaus National Forest to help stimulate local economies."

The event included a visit by Mark Twain and Bret Harte actors and a tour of the project work sites.
