Sonora, CA -- California has lost more than 36,000 jobs and over $2.4 billion dollars in wages over the last decade as production has moved away.
That's according to a report by a nonprofit economic think tank, The Milken Institute. The survey attributes the job losses due to movie and TV production companies migrating away to other states and countries because of tax credit incentives. In July 2009, California implanted its own Film Tax Credit program, allocating $500 million over the next five years.
Tuolumne County Film Commissioner, Jerry Day says he is happy to have the production incentive and that it is now possible to qualify for incentive funds for filming in Tuolumne County. Day added, "Before the incentive existed, they would say, we can't afford to film there and move on. Now, at least we're in the conversation and that is a great benefit. "
