Unique Mother Lode Events This Weekend

Several local events are sure to appeal to locals and tourists alike this weekend.

Columbia State Historic Park is presenting “Diggins Tent Town 1852”, as part of their annual living history event. The event started May 29th and will go thru Sunday. During the event you can interact and observe the lifestyles of the early miners as they prepare their meals, launder their clothing, and look for precious gold. Learn about their crafts, how their children played, their music and other forms or entertainment – including gambling. Admission to Columbia “Diggins 1852” from 10AM to 4PM daily, is $5 per adult and $1 per child 12 and under.  There is no charge for parking and admission to the park.  For more details view the event listing.

For those who have made reservations for Soroptimist International’s 18th annual Twain Harte A La Carte Saturday will be an evening to remember. Proceeds benefit local charities. For more information and a contact number view the event listing.

Big Dreams Parks & Playgrounds will be sponsoring a day of Fun in the Park. Old fashioned carnival games and activities will be provided by local service clubs and all games will be free. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. Details are in the event listing here.

The John Muir Geotourism Center celebrates the 5th annual John Muir Festival, taking place today and Saturday. This year’s event, themed, “Nature Hikes Heal Body & Soul: Stories from John Muir 1868 to Warrior Hike 2014,” will feature an assortment of speakers and events designed to celebrate Muir’s legacy. Tuolumne County Garden Club Annual Plant/Rummage/Bake Sale is this Saturday and Sunday as well. The sale includes veggies, flowering plants, small household items, furniture, books, an accessory boutique, and baked items. Details are here.
