KVML Newsmakers

Welcome to "KVML Newsmakers". As heard daily on KVML, this program features five-minute interviews with area newsmakers. So listen in and hear what people making the news in the Mother Lode have to say! We've also created an archive for you so you can listen to and share the audio casts, just click on the links below.

    Sonora author and historian Janet Irene Atkinson has published a very personal book that chronicles the life and career of her late daughter Sari March Schnepf-Terry. Atkinson was Thursday's KVML "Newsmaker of the Day".

    Sonora, CA -- The Tuolumne County Relay For Life will take place this weekend at Sonora High School. Event Chairperson Andee Houser says the purpose is to fight back against cancer. Houser was Wednesday's KVML "Newsmaker of the Day".

    The annual Calaveras Airport Fly-In/Open House "Air Faire 2013" will take place this Saturday from 8 a.m. through 5 p.m. Calaveras County Airport Manager, Kathy Zancanella, was Friday's KVML "Newsmaker of the Day".

  • 04/18/13    Yosemite Extends Public Comment Period
    Public pressure has pushed Yosemite National Park to extend its public comment period on the Merced River Draft Comprehensive Management Plan and Environmental Impact Statement. One of those who called for a 90 day extension was Congressman Tom McClintock. McClintock was Thursday's KVML "Newsmaker of the Day".

    The entire family will be able to "Celebrate Spring" at the 29th annual ICES' Children's Fair this Saturday, from 10 AM through 2 PM, at the Mother Lode's Fairgrounds in Sonora. Evelyn Thompson, ICES Agency Executive Director, was Wednesday's KVML "Newsmaker of the Day".

    Last night the Twain Harte-Long Barn School board decided to offer the position of outgoing Superintendent John Keiter to Soulsbyville Superintendent Jeff Winfield. Winfield was Friday's KVML "Newsmaker of the Day".

    The Sonora Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Town Hall Meeting this morning in the Sonora City Council Chambers. One of the featured speakers, Sonora City Administrator Tim Miller, was Thursday's KVML "Newsmaker of the Day".  

  • 04/10/13    Farmer's Market Mural Approval
    Sonora, CA -- Monday night the City of Sonora Planning Commission gave the okay to place an 8 x 24 ft. mural near the site of the downtown Farmers Market. BZ Smith, local arts and mural advocate, was Wednesday's KVML "Newsmaker of the Day".

    The Bureau of Reclamation's Central California Area Office will delay certain scheduled recreation area openings, reduce hours and make other changes at New Melones Lake due to federal budget constraints. Nanci Sikes, Executive Director for the Tuolumne County Visitors Bureau, was Thursday's KVML "Newsmaker of the Day".
