About Sonora Children's Theatre
Sonora Children's Theatre (SCT) is one of the most unique children's theatres in Northern California. Besides offering the three basic theatre classes (voice, acting and theatre dance), SCT also teaches classes in sound effects, story telling, script writing, set and stage designing, juggling, clownology, bio-drama, stage combat, Shakespeare, and more! The theatre is currently adding Classical Ballet to their program and is hoping to soon follow with a Film Technique class. This exciting program is for children ages 5 through 18. All classes are taught by teachers who are professionals or specialists in their particular fields. In order to accomplish this, they do not have just one or two teachers who teach all subjects, but many specialized instructors.
SCT's unique program was created and designed by moms in 2006, after the realization that there were few opportunities for children in Tuolumne County to participate in performing arts. Two moms started talking, and 6 months later Sonora Children's Theatre was born. When planning the sessions and classes they came from the perspective of what moms would want if they designed the "perfect children's theatre." Since its inception in February of 2007, SCT has taught over 150 local students. The theatre has had a very successful start, with its first two productions, "Sounds of the Season" and Alice in Wonderland Jr., both being sold out hits.
