Project Great Outdoors
06/01/2012Hours: TBA
Location: Coloma, California
On June first, Erin Girard will be part of a team that runs 178 miles in 24 hours to raise funds and awareness for Project GO (Project Great Outdoors) an organization that helps disadvantaged kids learn about themselves through adventures in the great outdoors. She is committed to raising $1,000 of the $12,000 that her team plans to raise. Money that's raised by Project GO is used in the most efficient way. We have only one staff member, part-time at that. The others who help operate Project GO - more than 150 volunteers - do it for the right reason: it feels right, it feels good. About 30% of Project GO's funding is through grants from foundations and corporate giving programs and another 20% comes from fees charged to participants. The remaining 50% comes from individual donors who give small amounts regularly. The annual budget is so small and our costs so low, that even a small donation has a big impact on our program and, more importantly, on the kids.
SNAC Arnold, Sissy's Bella Salon in Murphys, Bistro Espresso in Arnold and Harper's Habit also in Arnold, are selling raffle tickets ($5 a piece or 6 for $25) to benefit PGO. Two grand prices but worth about $50 will be drawn on June 3. SNAC has donated a Stand Up Paddle board or kayak rental and I am donating a $50 Wildtree (all natural food products) bundle.
