Older Adult Outreach & Engagement Program Volunteer Training

A heartfelt thank you to those that adopted an Elder for the holidays! You have made a world of difference in the life that you touched over the Holiday season. Now we would like to ask you to reflect on something... What will that elder do now that the holidays are over?

Adopting an elder all year long can easily be accomplished through the Older Adult Outreach and Engagement Program. Research shows that engagement activities keep our frail and/or isolated older adults engaged and instills a sense of belonging; slowing the progression of dementia and other age-related illnesses. Activities include visiting, reading, or watching a favorite movie together. They can also include lunches, walks, crafts and more. The only requirement is that you have a passion for elders. Make a difference in an elder's life by spending just one hour a week with them. All services are free to any older adult residing in Tuolumne and Calaveras County regardless of ethnicity, religion, or income.

Transportation is also a place where volunteers can make a much needed difference. The Outreach and Engagement Program assists in arranging transportation for doctor's appointments and grocery shopping, to the pharmacy, church, and other excursions. In return the Program offers mileage reimbursement to volunteers for their assistance in addressing this serious problem for our foothill older adults.
