Two steam train rides behind the famed "Movie Star Locomotive"

09/04/2010
Hours:  3:00PM and 4:30PM
Location:  Railtown 1897 State Historic Park

After a successful restoration effort and hugely popular return to service, rides behind the 1891-vintage steam locomotive Sierra No. 3 are available the first weekend of each month through October, 2010, at Railtown 1897 State Historic Park (SHP). Two steam train rides behind the famed "Movie Star Locomotive" are available each day on the following weekends: August 7 & 8, September 4 & 5, and October 2 & 3.

The memorable excursion steam train rides last approximately one hour in length at depart at 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on the weekends of operation. The rides include refreshments on board and a photo stop where passengers can step off the train and take pictures as Sierra No. 3 does a visually exciting full-steam "run by."

These memorable rides through the scenic Gold Country cost $24 for adults, $12 for youths ages 6-17 (children under five are free) and include Park admission. Discounted train ride ticket prices apply for Railtown 1897 SHP members and California State Railroad Museum members (Conductor level and above) at $21 for adults and $9 for youths. When purchasing tickets, visitors have the option to choose either the open-air coach or the limited seating in the indoor observation car. All passengers are able to move about between the two cars during the train ride.

Advance tickets to ride behind Sierra No. 3 on the first weekend of each month (August through October) are available now by visiting www.railtown1897.org or by calling 916-445-5995. Railtown 1897 SHP is located at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Reservoir Road in Jamestown, near Sonora.
