The long standing Clarke Broadcasting tradition of helping out families in the Mother Lode continues this year. As you may have heard on the local radio stations we have had increasing numbers of families in need the past few years.
Last year I wasn't sure what to expect. When I saw the very long line of police cars I knew I was at the right place. It was a very cold morning but there was plenty hot chocolate. The walls were lined with bags of collected donations and there was another area with flats of food. Everyone had a job and it was great to see kids eager to be there and help out.
Randolph Holder, the owner of Clarke Broadcasting, would call out several numbers in a clear strong radio voice- no microphone needed. Through out the warehouse the number would be relayed until the bag of toys with that family's number was found. The participating banks take the time to wrap up the presents and put the number on the whole batch. Some of the families have six or more kids and it must be such a joy for them to receive something that they don't have to share. The gifts themselves were so generous, the mother lode truly is full of people who give the most to the Angels they pick out.
I haven't had a chance to ride with an officer to deliver the gifts but this year there are so many deliveries some of the radio station staff will also be driving to the homes to deliver the goodies. I highly recommend finding a similar charitable event to participate in. No matter what time of year it is, giving is a gift unto itself.
If you are sponsoring a charitable event be sure to submit it to myMotherLode.com's event calendar.
