Window Shopping

Moving over close to Murphys in Calaveras from Downtown Sonora has given me the opportunity to compare what I like about the window shopping appeal of both.

Sonora's main street, Washington has a lot of restaurants- Murphy's is smaller, has a few restaurants, but also many wine tasting shops. I like how several are tucked back from the rest of the shop's fronts away from the road.

Sonora has several boutiques and clothing stores, even very high priced ones. Like all the towns around here there are antique stores. Sonora's pet store, candy shop and the lovely children's toy store / music store are unparalleled in the area but Murphys has lovely shops too. We found a great consignment shop with a lot of winter clothes for the kids. We will definitely go back there- boys go through clothes very fast!

Murphys has a few salons on Main Street and I was able to schedule and appointment to get my hair cut. There was plenty of parking and I crossed the bridge over the rushing stream that cuts through downtown. Sonora also has a stream and Coffil Park compares to Murphys Park. Except Murphys Park has a lovely play structure and plenty of kids and adults were out on the cold winter day enjoying it.

Maybe I just like the smaller, newer town feel and have become too leery of Sonora's busy rush of cars and trucks through downtown.

Downtown Jamestown was equally pleasant when I was with Justin and Maryann during a summer broadcast from the Gazebo. It was a weekday but there were quite a few tourists. Angels Camp is great as well we checked out the furniture store, the impressive jewelry shops and had a lovely quiet lunch with out the kids.

So far I like downtown Murphys the best. I will be visiting friends in Copperopolis for Thanksgiving can't wait to take in their lovely new downtown.

To all the merchants I support you as much as I can!

To everyone else, keep your eyes open for some great deals, and enjoy window shopping this "Black Friday" with your precious holiday dollars!
