Sierra Repertory Theatre is an award-winning professional theatre located in the beautiful foothills of California’s Gold Country.  Now in its 28th year, SRT seeks to present the broadest possible view of theatrical literature in its year-round season.  High quality performances and production values have established Sierra Rep as an exemplary company: a fully professional theater in a rural community.

Since 1983, SRT consistently has been among just a handful of rural, non profit theatres in the nation to receive top ratings and grant support from national, state and regional foundations.  Since 1992, SRT has received numerous funding awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, affirming the company’s contribution to the national theatre community.

SRT productions earn ovations from press and audiences alike.  More than half of the theatre’s patrons travel an hour or more to see SRT productions.  Attendance in 2007 is expected to top 65,000 patrons including nearly 2,500 subscribers.

Sierra Rep performs in two venues.  East Sonora, a contemporary theatre with 202 seats, has superb sight lines and acoustics.  No seat is more than ten rows from the stage.  The Fallon House is a 120 year-old theatre in Columbia State Historic Park.  It has 274 seats, including a balcony.

SRT’s 2007 season offers a fresh, diverse line-up with five regional premieres – including two Broadway blockbusters just released for regional production - along with a classic American drama, sexy British farce, Gold Rush adventure and a pair of musical comedy classics.

We promise something for everyone.  Join us!

We’ve been around since 1964 performing in the beginning in the Native Sons of the Golden West Hall on Main St. in Murphys, Ca. In 1984 there was enough community support to build our present facility located at 580 S. Algiers St., Murphys. We provide quality productions that are exciting, thought provoking and innovative, as well as, entertaining and fun for the whole family. We excel at farce, comedy and melodrama and have added “The Black Bart Improvisors” troop to our venue. The theater is also available to various community groups as well. It has been used for numerous concerts, dance performances, movies, children’s theater, summer drama programs and workshops, as well as other local theater

Murphys Creek Theatre is a small, non-equity regional theatre company located in the charming and historic goldrush-era town of Murphys, in Calaveras County, California. Founded in 1994, the company produces the annual "Theatre Under the Stars" outdoor summer theatre festival at the Cornelia B. Stevenot Performing Arts Center at Stevenot Winery. Since its founding in 1994, MCT's productions at Stevenot have grown steadily in popularity and critical acclaim, and have become a favorite summer tradition for both residents and visitors alike. The company consists primarily of accomplished theatre artists from the Sierra foothills, Central Valley and Bay Area regions of California, although we have also had actors and directors from as far away as New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, London and Paris participate in our productions.

Situated in a lovely pastoral valley 2 miles outside of Murphys, Stevenot Winery's intimate 250-seat outdoor amphitheatre provides the perfect setting to enjoy an evening of live theatre under the summer stars. Set on a tree-covered hillside in a natural "bowl," the theatre offers tiered seating with outstanding acoustics and site lines.

You are welcome to bring a picnic dinner to enjoy before the show. Light snacks, desserts, Stevenot wine by the glass or bottle, and non-alcoholic beverages are available for purchase at each performance.

Our inaugural production in 1974 was Neil Simon's Prisoner of Second Avenue, the first performance of that work by any amateur group in California. From that venturesome beginning, we have given audiences more than two decades of quality theatrical entertainment. Since 1989, the Volcano Theatre Company has been nominated for sixty five "Ellys" and carried awayeleven. (The Elly is the Sacramento Area Regional Theatre Alliance's equivalent of an Oscar or Tony.)

The Cobblestone Theatre, built in 1856 as Adolf Meyer's Tobacco & Cigar Emporium, later housed Lavezzo's Wine Shop. A disastrous fire in 1900, fueled by a cellar full of high-proof spirits, destroyed all but the sturdy stone walls you see today. Restored as an art gallery in the 1960's, the building was leased by the VTC beginning in 1974 and, through the generosity of the Thebaut family, we acquired title in 1989.

Over the years, the success of our Company has enabled us not only to greatly improve the facilities of the little Cobblestone Theatre, but also to acquire the property across the street for an amphitheatre provides a larger venue for our summer productions and a delightful pre-performance picnic site.

This year you will be seated in our newly remodeled audience area made of native stone, financed in part by our generous "Brick Buyers."
