Summerville High School student Caitlyn Smith is this year´s Mother Lode Round-Up Queen. Three young ladies competed Sunday night for the silver crown. Smith, Mallory Wallace and Valerie Lagattuta spoke, modeled different fashions and answered questions during the pageant at the Sonora Elks Lodge.

Judges totalled scores to pick the winner, but not all the points came from the pageant. Saturday´s event, the Queen´s horsemanship competition, accounted for 30 percent of the total vote in choosing this year´s winner.


The 2003 Mother Lode Round-Up Parade was again a huge success. The constant rainstorms of the past few weeks disappeared, giving way to brilliant sunshine and warm temperatures. Of the 168 separate entries, these 32 were honored as best-of-class:
