CHP Grant to Fund Presentations, Child SeatsFriday, January 30, 2004 - 02:50 AM
The California Highway Patrol, in addition to this weekend's special DUI campaign, is also continuing its effort to get children buckled up. Now, a 900-thousand dollar federal grant will allow the CHP to augment the effort with a combination of how-to presentations, and hands-on events.
In addition, officials say the grant will allow 36-hundred safety seats to be distributed to parents who need an upgrade. With statistics like "80 percent of children in vehicles are unrestrained or buckled up incorrectly", CHP Commissioner Spike Helmick says "a child safety seat can make the difference between a safe, healthy child and one that's injured or killed".
