Yosemite Cautions Poachers

Yosemite, Ca -- A 62-year-old Merced man learned the hard way that hunting is illegal in national parks, when he was arrested last week in Yosemite.

“Those who are hunting around the area need to make sure that they have good map and know where they are at,” says Yosemite Spokesperson Kari Cobb. “Pay attention to the boundary lines, because law enforcement is definitely out there.”

A tip from California Department of Fish and Game led investigators to the location of a tree-stand, well inside the park boundary. After three weeks of surveillance, the suspect was arrested.

Hunters traveling through the park to other locations are also required to store firearms out of reach and separate them from any ammunition.
