Sonora, CA -- The Second Annual Cops and Kids Fair is set for Saturday at Sonora Elementary School from noon until 3pm.

Traffic Officer Jaemie Boeding says it's all about building relationships with youngsters and their parents in the community. Boeding adds that officers want all citizens to feel comfortable in approaching the police for any need they might have. "We want youngsters to know that we are here for them and to protect them and the rest of the community."

The event is centered on the S.P.D.'s trading card program. Those children who have collected all of the trading cards will be entered into a special drawing for prizes.

Everything at the event is free for the kids. This year there will be a bounce house, climbing wall, "dunk a cop" tank, food, games and other activities.

A CAL Fire helicopter 404 appeared at the First Annual Cops and Kids Fair at Sonora Elementary School.

The event will end with a free raffle. This year the Sonora Police Officers Association has purchased or had donated over $3,000 in prizes including Sony PSP, bicycles, I Pods, movie tickets, Nintendo DS and DVD players.

There will also be information for parents regarding child safety. In addition members of the Sonora Police Department's Communications Unit will have demonstrations on how to access Megan's Law.

Assisting the S.P.D. will be the C.H.P., CAL Fire and Copter 404 from the Columbia Air Base and the Sonora Fire Department. Also on site will be the Search and Rescue and Boating and Safety units from the Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office.
