Sacramento, Ca -- It has now been 68 days that legislators have failed to pass a state budget for the people of California.
1st District Republican State Senator Dave Cox addressed the issue during his weekly Capitol Report. “Last week the Senate rejected a spending plan that raises taxes, releases convicted felons early, and does not protect funding for public safety,” says Cox. “While budget discussions are not proceeding as fast as I would prefer, progress is being made. Meetings are occurring between the legislative leaders and the Governor. Legislative hearings have been held, and debates are taking place.”
The current budget deficit sits at $15 billion, and Republicans and Democrats have not been able to come to a compromise.
