State Budget Proposal Voted Down: Cogdill Reaction

Friday, August 29, 2008 - 04:05 PM
14th District State Senator Dave Cogdill

Sacramento, Ca -- A $100.3 billion budget proposal was voted down this afternoon in the California Senate.

The plan, proposed by Democrats, included a three year, one cent increase in sales tax.

“Unfortunately, the bill we voted on today has no meaningful spending reforms,” says Senate Republican Leader Dave Cogdill. “It includes no measures to help the average Californian keep his job or bring more jobs to the state. It puts public safety at risk, and on top of everything else, asks working Californians to pay more sales tax to bail out legislative overspending.”

Cogdill says Republicans will put out a budget proposal within the next 24-48 hours.
