Baker Selected To Be Railtown Superintendent

Thursday, August 28, 2008 - 03:30 PM
Railtown 1897 Park Supt. Kim Baker

Jamestown, Ca -- Kim Baker has been selected to be the new Superintendent for Railtown 1897 State Historic Park in Jamestown.

Baker has worked as a Park Ranger at the Silverwood Lake State Recreation Area, Half Moon Bay State Beach and Big Basin Redwoods State Park. In 2003, she was promoted to Supervising Ranger at Columbia State Historic Park.

“While at Columbia, Kim distinguished herself as a strong advocate for historic preservation, proper collections care and management, and interpretive program development,” says California State Parks Capital District Superintendent Catherine Taylor, who made the final decision. “She also built good relationships and strong ties within the Tuolumne County community.”

Baker will step into her new position on September 15, and is looking forward to the challenges ahead. “Railtown is really on the cusp of a lot of new and exciting projects,” says Baker. “Of course there is the restoration of the big steam engine that everyone in the county has been helping to raise money towards. But also, the (California) Railroad Museum Foundation has been raising a lot of money to do some exhibit improvements that the public will notice.”

Baker will spend her first week on the job in Sacramento meeting with State Park officials, and will be briefed on a number of issues relevant to her leadership role at Railtown.
