Berryhill's Metal Theft Bill Approved By Senate

Thursday, August 21, 2008 - 03:10 PM
25th District Assemblyman Tom Berryhill

Sacramento, Ca -- A bill co-authored by Republican Assemblyman Tom Berryhill designed to disrupt the increasing amount of metal stolen across the state has passed through the Senate.

AB 844 would require recyclers to hold payment on metal for three days, take a photo and thumbprint of the seller, and snap a photo of the items received.

“AB 844 will provide a strong deterrent to those seeking a quick cash fix,” says Berryhill. “This crime has wreaked havoc on all areas of our state. No one has been spared from these criminals who strip wires from utilities, vandalize fire hydrants, steal manhole covers, destroy agricultural equipment, remove guardrails, the list goes on and on.”

AB 844 now moves to the Assembly for a vote.
