Escaped Prisoner May Be In Copperopolis Area

Copperopolis, Ca -- Officials with the Sierra Conservation Center have not been able to locate 35-year-old escaped prisoner George Landecho Lopez who was last seen Wednesday afternoon at the facility's carpentry building.

Lt. Jimmy Hurtado says that the search effort is being focused in the Copperopolis area. There was a break-in at the Poker Flat Resort area at 3am Friday morning, in which $600 was stolen. Hurtado says officials are investigating whether Lopez was responsible, but have no immediate proof as the surveillance camera was not running at the time of the incident.

Lopez was serving a five year term for disregard for safety, possession of a firearm by a felon and failure to appear in court. You are asked to call 911 if you see the escaped prisoner.
