South County Marijuana Eradication

Wednesday, July 09, 2008 - 01:10 PM
Mature marijuana bud

Groveland, Ca -- 2,485 marijuana plants were pulled by the Tuolumne Narcotics Team in the Granite Creek Drainage off of Cherry Oil Rd. on Tuesday

According to Lt. Dan Bressler, it was determined that the growers had been at the garden within the past 24 hours, but they had fled the scene by the time the team arrived.

Based on evidence, the Sheriff's Office believes the garden was the work of the Mexican Drug Trafficking Organization. If allowed to mature, the plants could have had a value of $1,500 to $2,000 per plant.

The Sheriff's Office was assisted by the U.S. Forest Service and National Park Service.
