North Mountain Fire Grows To 1,000 Plus Acres

Groveland, Ca -- The North Mountain Fire has now burned 1,010 acres, according to Pat Kaunert with the Stanislaus National Forest.

263 firefighters are currently battling the blaze, located in the Groveland Ranger District near Yosemite National Park. The exact location is 19 miles northeast of Groveland and seven miles southwest of Hetch Hetchy in the Cherry Creek drainage area.

“We have more than 700 wildfires burning across California, and firefighters throughout the state are beginning to get a handle on some of those fires,” says Kaunert. “Those resources are now being redeployed, so we are starting to receive some of the orders that we have outstanding.”

Containment of the North Mountain Fire is estimated at five percent.

Resources include three Type One Hand Crews, three Type Two Hand Crews, two helicopters, three air tankers, five engines and two dozers.

Contingency plans have been developed to evacuate organizational camps and forest recreational residences should the need arise.
