Sonora, CA -- Thanks to the Sierra Nevada Conservancy, the Tuolumne Utilities District has received a $350,000 grant.
T.U.D. General Manager Pete Kampa says the funding will allow T.U.D. to complete all of the data needed to make important decisions about the operation, maintenance and improvement of the ditch system, ways to reduce leakage while increasing water supply, improve water quality as well as preserving and improve the many "open ditch" system benefits identified through extensive public input over the past decades. The initial phase of the project will start this spring with extensive mapping of ditch features to allow for efficient and comprehensive environmental review and planning for operational and constructed improvements. Flumes, service connections, gunite and pipe sections, wetlands, spills, leaks, valves, weirs and access for firefighting will be included in an electronic mapping system.
