Sonora, CA -- Thanks to a grant from the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C., the Sonora Police Department has been able to update its equipment inventory.
Lt. Mark Stinson says it's a three phase program. The initial phase has supplied each officer with a video camera. The second phase called for the installation of on-board computers in each of the patrol units. The on-board computers can be removed from the vehicle for sending reports to the department from a restaurant or a residence. In addiiton officers can file reports from their cars and also utilize the computers for PowerPoint presentations.
The third phase of the grant will include the purchase of a new radio dispatch system.
The grant was for $80,000, but the department only spent $72,000 of that amount for the new equipment.
