Jamestown, CA -- The CHP investigation into a single vehicle accident on Pleasantview Drive Saturday evening at 6:13 in Groveland is continuing today.
Officer Tom Wills says 21 year old Bryce Johnson of Big Oak Flat was apparently kicked out of a bar due to his level of intoxication. He then entered Pine Mountain Lake Estates and subsequently drove off the roadway and down an enbankment where his 2007 Subaru Legacy collided with a residence. Johnson and his two unidentified passengers fled the scene. Johnson's girlfriend then contacted the CHP and filed a stolen vehicle report. The vehicle suffered major damage as did the residence.
Wills adds this is a fairly common practice in the Mother Lode. A party is involved in an accident, flees the scene and then reports a stolen vehicle in an effort to collect the insurance money and avoid prosecution.
