Statewide Watershed Forum Set For Tuesday In Sonora

Sonora, CA -- Tuesday evening from 6:30 until eight o'clock, the Sonora Fire Department at 201 S. Shepherd St. will host the last of four San Joaquin River Hydrologic Region forums.

California Resources Agency Secretary Mike Chrisman has tasked the Department of Conservation with transitioning CALFED's highly regarded but Delta-centric Watershed Program into a wider reaching effort.

Tuolumne County Third District Supervisor Teri Murrison says, "Through local conversations we hope to learn what support is needed to help steward natural resources in each watershed. This important information will help construct an effective collaborative statewide watershed program to undergird local efforts."

The San Joaquin Hydrologic Region includes five major tributaries including the Stanislaus, Tuolumne, Merced, Calaveras and Mokelumne Rivers. The region touches all of Calaveras, Tuolumne, Mariposa, Madera, San Joaquin and Stanislaus counties in addition to most of Merced and Amador counties and parts of Alpine, Fresno, Alameda, Contra Costa, Sacramento, El Dorado and San Benito counties.

The initial three forums were held in Oakhurst (Feb. 22), Modesto and Los Banos.
