Sonora, CA -- Tuolumne County's new health van, otherwise known as BOB (Be On Board), continues to hit the road servicing a half-a-dozen school districts each week.
Financed through a grant from the Sonora Area Foundation, BOB services grade schools through high schools. County Health Officer Dr. Todd Stolp serves as the attending physician until a nurse practicioner can be hired. Stolp says that available services include general checkups, eye-ears-nose and throat treatments, sports physicals in addition to students with asthma and diabetes.
Stolp adds that a clinical case manager from the county's Behavioral Health Unit deals with youngsters with emotional issues that may even include the contemplation of suicide.
Stolp and County School Superintendent Joe Silva are hopeful that a second van can be added in the very near future.
