San Andreas, Ca -- Two armed robberies that occurred over the weekend in San Andreas and Wallace are under investigation by the Calaveras County Sheriff's Department.
Saturday morning at 8:30am, James Wood and David Williams, both of Stockton, were gold panning in a creek near Highway 12 and Central Hill Rd. near San Andreas. The two told deputies that they were approached by two unknown suspects. The suspects brandished a handgun and demanded that the Stockton residents give up their wallets. The victims were then forced to lie down on the ground while the suspects ran away. Then at 10pm Saturday evening, the Sheriff's Department received a report of an armed robbery at the Chevron on Hwy 12 in Wallace. The store clerk told deputies that two unknown suspects entered the store, brandished a handgun, and demanded money. The suspects got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Investigators are working active leads and have reason to believe that the robberies could be related.
