Connector Between Sonora And Columbia Discussed By Supervisors

Tuesday, November 27, 2007 - 06:10 PM

Sonora, Ca -- On Tuesday, the Tuolumne County Public Works Department updated the Board of Supervisors on the proposed north-south connector project that would run between between Sonora and Columbia.

The roadway would be designed to provide local residents an alternative to the congestion on Washington Street. There are five options being looked at as possible connectors; Greenley Rd. to Route 49 in Browns Flat, Hess Avenue to Route 49 in Browns Flat, Hess Avenue to Route 49 at the Pedro Y, Mono Way (near Fir Drive) to Route 49 in Browns Flat and Phoenix Lake Rd. to Sawmill Flat Rd.

According to a traffic analysis report presented by the Public Works Department, a north-south connector would reduce traffic on Washington St. by 4,000-8,100 vehicles per day.

The cost of the project could range from anywhere from $9-39 million depending upon which option is selected. No action was taken at Tuesday's meeting.
