Sonora, CA -- Yosemite National Park investigators and the Tuolumne County Coroner's Office have identified 44 year old Peter Charles Nobel of Oakland, CA as the climber who died over the weekend.
According to Park Spokesperson Adrienne Freeman Nobel was involved in climbing a technical route of Cathedral Peak late Saturday. A severe storm proceeded to move through the area as the two climbers initiated their descent. At approximately 7:30 Sunday morning Nobel's climbing partner made contact with park rangers. A rescue team then secured Nobel's body. An autopsy to determine the exact cause of death will be performed either today or tomorrow. The initial thought is that Nobel's death may have been weather related.
