Outside Resources Help Battle Small Fires In Stanislaus National Forest

Tuesday, October 30, 2007 - 04:40 PM

Sonora, Ca -- Because so many local firefighters are currently in Southern California, some outside help has arrived in Tuolumne County to help locate and battle small fires that resulted from last night's lightening storm.

“We have a strike team of engines that just got into town from Idaho and Montana,” says Stanislaus National Forest Fire Dispatch Center Manager Bill Barrios. “They're going to be helping us out over the next couple of days to make sure we have a handle on everything.”

Barrios says this is by no means an emergency situation, but resources are stretched to the point that extra help is beneficial.

A total of 16 fires have been spotted. Barrios says some have been single trees, while many others have been approximately 10 to 20 ft. in size. The largest reported fire has been one quarter of an acre.
