Firefighters Tracking Down Monday Storm "Smokes" And Possible Fires

Tuesday, October 30, 2007 - 09:30 AM

Sonora, CA -- Stanislaus National Forest fire crews are busy tracking down what could be residual smoldering and possibly fires from those Monday lightning strikes.

Bill Barrios, manager of the Fire Dispatch Center in Sonora, says the search is on in the Groveland District, Pilot Peak and Spring Gap.

Barrios adds that there could be as many as a dozen potential fires resulting from the thurnder and lightning storm that roared through the Mother Lode.

Barrios admits there is a shortage of resources given so many S.N.F. personnel are in southern California, but he adds additional resources are arriving today including a strike team of Type Four engines which are a bit smaller than the traditional wildland engines. The Type Four engines carry a crew of from two to three firefighters.
