Sonora, Ca -- When 21-year-old Mary Montoya was pulled over by Sonora Police Wednesday night for running a stop sign, the officer noticed that the ignition to the vehicle was mysteriously punched out, a sign that the vehicle has been hot-wired.
According to the Police Department, during the officer's investigation, he determined that the vehicle belongs to Montoya's roommate. The owner of the car, who is currently incarcerated in the Tuolumne County Jail, says that Montoya did not have permission to drive the vehicle, and had no knowledge of the damage. Montoya was arrested on charges of vehicle theft and for driving with a suspended license. The vehicle was a 1991 Toyota Corolla.
